February 7, 2012

One of the numerous ways of promoting your website is to drive traffic into your site through PPC (pay-per-click) ot PPC Ad such as AdWords and Facebook. Each day will be capped with making more profits by promoting any businesses online.

Being able to rank in search results instantly without any problems is one of the main advantages of running PPC campaigns, plus you only have to pay for what you have used. If your Ad did not have a click then you won’t charged and won’t have to pay.  Setting up an Ad and having it to the top results does directly equate that it is going to lead to loads of people clicking on it (Yes, it sounds a bit cruel but we speak of reality here). Just like any other Ad, like the one you hear and see in television or radio, you see in newspapers, results are not harvested in an instant, and one cause of this is maybe your Ad is not as effective as you thought it would be, or just its did not go to the right person in the right time.

The same principle applies to the online advertising. With an unattractive Ad, you can’t expect a big hit and would do magic for your site. But hope is always there. With this article, I will help you construct a compelling PPC Ad that will surely kill a click, and discuss factors that are important for a successful Ad.

while creating PPC Ad Deal with the basics first

Understanding how PPC exactly works is the first thing you should do, most especially if you’re a newbie to the online world. So then, let me start talking about PPC. Well, it is a campaign wherein you can produce an Ad that will be displayed in sponsored sections of each search results, and on users using Google AdSense programs with their sites. Choosing PPC over others

There are numerous good reasons why one should choose PPC for your website promotion. But the main is that your website will have greater probability of being visible to searchers instantly after you have launched your advert. You don’t have to wait until your website is indexed. If you are new online and have just started your website and still waiting for it to be indexed fully, this will work very well for you to be able to taste the huge rewards SEO can offer. Since SEO somehow takes longer than creating an Ad, then PPC will be the perfect way for you to put your site along with the others on top in a short period of time.

When your site begin to rank well, then you can start reducing the amount you used to spend for your PPC campaign and can you used it rather in added marketing methods, both online and offline.

Another circumstances where you might consider using PPC is when you want to embark on a new service or product and must test these to see the responses they would get from the users.

On your site, you can create a landing page where you can divert the traffic from your Ad which you can monitor tests and results with an ease.  The said technique is not just applicable to launching new products, same method can also be use if you are considering to expand abroad or if you to target more users from certain areas. One can also set his campaign on Google Adwords to show in specific countries only and can also test in different language, to have an idea of what might happen. In other words, it is testing the waters.

Those things above are just some of the great reasons why we should venture into PPC. You might also have one, so, just feel free to share your PPC experience with us through comment below.

Creating the Killer Ad

You should know the basic factors which you need to consider in making the perfect PPC campaign for you to able to benefit fully.

Reason – You must have a clear picture of what you want to promote before you create a PPC Ad. Need to consider if it is a service, a brand or product. You must intelligently decide on what you are going to promote in the PPC campaign for this will make the next procedures much easier for you. Again, have a clear though of the reason why you want to set an ad out there.

Goal – When you already have a thought on what your Ad to be all about then the next logical step you shall take is to decide what you want for your Ad to do. The situation is, if internet users click your Ad, then what’s next? Do you want those users to contact you, generate a lead for you, or buy something from you? Remember, you have paid for them to visit your site so don’t let them leave empty handed.

Look on the opposite direction, look at your site and its call of actions and it is performing. If your site is not that appealing and you do not have any call of action, then these are the things you need to address first before running your campaign. If you haven’t than this then the profit you should have made would just go down the drain. In setting up call of actions for your site, you just have to think of what you want yours visitors to do upon arriving at your site.

From this, you might create a landing page for your Ad which shall carry a bold and effective message and would tell your visitors what they (you want) shall do next, either buying your offered services or products, subscribe to your newsletters, contact you or whatever you may want them to do. Of course, there has to be one unless you want your campaign to be worthless.

Research – Doing research should not be forgotten. You should know whom you be targeting for your Ad and see who the ideal audience are. In doing research, you should ask yourself these basic questions:

  • Who will use your product or service?
  • Is it for all age groups and locations?
  • How will they benefit from it?

Attractive Ad: After making your market research, you now know who you want to target, then you now ready to create the Ad. The title is very important for this will determine if your Ad will be clicked or not. So, formulate a title that will best reflect what you are promoting and will be familiar to your target audience and the marker. You may also mention your offers, promotions if you have, in the title to make it more appealing to the users. Having “Sale”, “Free” or “50% Discounts” as catch phrases twill most often stand out from others.  Never copy the titles of competitors for this will not make your Ad stand out in the crowd but will just blend in with the mass. Instantly, your purpose is defeated.

Content of your Ad should always be brief and simple, it shall be straight forward. Don’t complicate your advert. The more simple the Ad is, the clearer the message will be, and the more users will likely click. And most importantly, do not forget to include at least one of your keywords in the Ad. This will help your Ad with its ranking in search engines.

Prices of your products can also be mentioned in your Ad especially if this is way too low than the others. Having this in your title will surely stand out from the rest of the competitors.

Choosing the correct keywords: After creating your Ad, you have to choose keywords. One popular mistake in the beginning is choosing broad keywords which will result in showing your Ad to users that may not be looking for your product or service. Other disadvantage of broad keywords is the tough competition you’d be facing. Note that PPC campaigns is done through bidding systems, and trying to rank broad keywords such as “sandals” or “diet” will be difficult especially you are running a low-budget Ad campaign. Major competitors can easily outbid your Ad.

The market research phase mentioned above is very essential in keyword selection, as it is on that stage that you will know your target, your potential buyers and what they tend to look online. Note that based on this, you can select appropriate and effective keywords.

After choosing keywords, next will be the setting up of your budget. Resolve how much you are willing to pay users to click on your Ad. Each keyword has its price and must be budgeted. Keywords that are more in demand are expensive than others. If keyword selection process was done effectively then you will be able to have good keywords at a good price, keywords which will be relevant to the market and your business.

Test – After making and publishing your Ad, leaving it on auto-pilot and forget about easily is not advisable. You should test your Ad constantly to be able to ensure if it is performing as expected  and to be able to notice some things that might need correcting. Having your Ad on auto-pilot may result in you paying for the Ad that may not be beneficial at all.

Once you log into your AdWords account, its first page and the keywords page will give you an overall view of how the Ad you posted is performing, how many impressions it got and the number of clicks each of your keyword had.

Split testing is one of the best way of testing your advert done by creating 3 or 4 variations of you Ad and having them run at the same time. By this, you can measure which one is more effective and which will give you more in return. Here are some points to guide you in creating variations of your advertisement:

  • Titles: Experiment with different Ad titles and see which among them is getting more results. Is it the one with call to action or is it the title which displays offer or price?
  • Description: Similar to your title, change each Ad description and experiment with a variety of phrases and words. There are times that common words which you have presumed to work well won’t get the response you expected. Spend some time to think out of the box to come up with some variations.
  • Time: One way of Ad testing is the time and the day you display it. Is it going to be displayed during the week or weekends? Change these settings and monitor what kind of response you’ll get.
  • Landing Page: Aside from changing Ad contents and settings, you might also want to try sending visitors to different landing pages and observe which among them do best for your business.  An Ad may be perfect but your landing page may need some improvement to give your campaign an effective final finish. Spend some time testing different landing pages.
  • Location: Test with different locations for your Ad. You might be able to get the response you want from other areas. Trying different locations will give a much better idea of the where to focus on and what locations you need more work to do.

PPC can really benefit and bring in good results for you if it just done correctly, effectively and would be monitored closely.
